The world was coming to terms with global terror in the aftermath of the tragedy in the USA on 9/11/2001. IOIF, as ICON was called at that time, was in its first year as a discussion group on Yahoo! At that time God guided IOIF to do a beautiful deed.

Sosamma Chacko had scored state level first rank in Technical Higher secondary examination in Kerala that year(2001). She was however completely deaf and mute and her family was financially strained. Malayala Manorama reported the news of this girl which was picked up by IOIF member Robin Alex and posted on ICON in June 2001. See his message here.

They did some ground work gathering details and then made an appeal on the forum to the members for helping the brilliant, but severely challenged young girl.In the sequence of events that unfolded, there was a global joining of hands for the success of this noble endeavor. Many kind hearted well wishers contributed and the IOIF Moderators were able to give a substantial Christmas gift to Sosamma Chacko in a small function in Kottayam by the hands of Ivanios Thirumeni from Kottayam diocese.

This noble effort also defined the future direction of IOIF in a big way. The transparency and efficiency with which the project was handled, the co-ordination that was required of the Moderators, the unflinching and unselfish support of the IOIF members, all gave great confidence and morale boost to the Moderators strengthening their belief that IOIF indeed was here to stay as a vibrant wing of the church filling a void in cyberspace. The lessons learnt in this project proved invaluable for the future endeavors that IOIF would involve itself in. This project provided great inspiration for IOIF to undertake similar projects in future. Looking back, we see divine providence and guidance by God in helping IOIF build its foundations in those formative years by means of this project.
